Ayurveda is recognized by many doctors to be the oldest healing science. In Sanskrit, Ayurveda means “The Science of Life. “Ayurveda originated in India more than 5,000 years ago and is often called the “Mother of All Healing. “Ayurveda is one of the world’s oldest holistic (“whole-body “) healing systems. Ayurveda places great emphasis on prevention and encourages the maintenance of health through close attention to balance in one’s life, right thinking, diet, lifestyle, and the use of herbs. Knowledge of Ayurveda enables one to understand how to create this balance of body, mind, and consciousness according to one’s constitution and how to make lifestyle changes to bring about and maintain this balance. Just as everyone has a unique fingerprint, each person has a particular pattern of energy—an individual combination of physical, mental, and emotional characteristics—which comprises their constitution. This constitution is determined at conception by a number of factors and remains the same throughout one’s life.

Agnikarma:

Ayurveda classifies three basic types of energy principles that are present in every human. Original Sanskrit words for this energy are Vata, pitta, and Kapha.  This energy is required to create movement so that fluids and nutrients get to the cells, enabling the body to function. Energy is also needed to metabolize the nutrients in the cells to maintain and lubricate the formation of the cell. Body, mind, and consciousness work together in sustaining balance in Ayurveda. They are simply viewed as various aspects of one’s being. According to Ayurvedic philosophy, the entire universe is an interaction of the energies of the five significant elements—Earth, Water Space, Air, and Fire. Vata, pitta, and Kapha are combinations and transformations of these five elements that manifest as patterns present in all creation. Vata is the energy of action; pitta is the energy of metabolism and digestion, Kapha, the energy of lubrication and structure.

Vata is the energy associated with action

formed of Space and Air. It directs blinking, breathing, muscle and tissue movement, pulsation of the heart, and all changes in the cytoplasm and cell membranes. Vata promotes flexibility and creativity. If Vata dosha is seen in your body, then you are more likely to develop conditions like heart disease, anxiety, asthma, rheumatoid arthritis, and skin problems.

Guidelines for balancing Vata:
  • Avoid cold, frozen or raw foods
  • Keep warm
  • Keep calm
  • Avoid extreme cold
  • Keep a regular routine
  • Eat warm foods and spices
  • Get plenty of rest

Pitta means the body’s metabolic and digestive system:

It is made up of water and Fire. It oversees metabolism, digestion, absorption, assimilation, body temperature, and nutrition. Pitta promotes intelligence and understanding. On the other hand, pitta arouses anger, hatred, and jealousy. If Pitta dosha is found in your body then you are more likely to develop conditions like infections, crohn’s disease, heart disease, and high blood pressure.

Guidelines for balancing pitta:
  • Avoid excessive steam
  • Avoid excessive heat
  • Avoid excessive oil
  • Eat cooling, non-spicy foods
  • Exercise daily in the morning when the climate is cold
  • Limit salt intake

Kapha is the energy of structure and lubrication:

Tendons, bones, muscles hold the cells together, built from Water and Earth. Kapha supplies water to all body parts and systems. It moisturizes the skin, lubricates joints, and maintains immunity. Kapha is expressed as forgiveness, love, and calmness. On the other side, Kapha leads to attachment, greed, and envy. To maintain proper balance and health, it is essential to pay attention to these decisions. Diet and lifestyle appropriate to one’s constitution strengthen the body, mind, and consciousness. Kapha dosha is spotted in you then it develops nausea after eating, asthma and other breathing disorders, cancer, diabetes, and obesity.

Guidelines for balancing Kapha:

  • Keep active
  • Get plenty of exercises
  • Avoid heavy foods
  • Avoid fatty, oily foods
  • Avoid dairy
  • Avoid iced food or drinks
  • Vary your routine
  • Eat light, dry food
